About Dorothy Black
Dorothy is an established mixed-media artist based in rural Fife, with work held in private and public collections across the UK and beyond. Rooted in powerful draughtsmanship, her practice explores natural forms, still life, pattern, and print, with a particular focus on the figure and portrait. Working on a large scale, she seeks to capture movement and presence, creating images that convey drama, strength, and impact. Her botanical studies extend these themes, finding parallels between organic structures and the human form.
Central to Dorothy’s work is a fascination with contrasts—solid structure against painterly freedom, intricate detail alongside expressive abstraction. Vintage colour schemes and motifs often inspire her, and she employs a variety of printing techniques combined with drawn and painted elements.
