Indian Summer VIII, Sally Gatie, Greengallery

Born and raised in North Yorkshire, Sally works from sketches and photomontages, using the figure as a starting point for an exploration of colour, texture, and pattern. Her fascination with the human form led her to spend many hours in the life room, honing her drawing and painting skills from the life model. From this she developed a highly skilled classical drawing technique and a deep knowledge of colour.
Sally’s love of pattern and texture is obvious in her expressive mark making techniques, often depicting the figure gently cradled within a sea of patterned fabric. Her subject matter is intimately close, showing a private view of a woman’s life, while exploring ideas of motherhood, birth, and nurturing.
