About Seatree Argyll
Chris and Michaela work together under the name of ‘Seatree’ to create their ceramic artworks. Chris is a poet and they bring the words to life on the clay using imagery, textures and marks which complement the poetry. Using stoneware and raku clay, they leave some areas unglazed and some accented with glaze colours inspired by the beautiful Argyll coastline where they live. Their work inspires and engages, exploring the beautiful and broken human condition, earth connectedness, the spirituality of wild places and the need for hope.
Seatree pieces are all unique, and cover a wide variety of shapes and forms, from flat wall art through to vases and large raku urns and platters. This variety reflects what Chris and Michaela call ‘an on-going experiment in living creatively’, and a determination to explore the ceramic medium as both an artistic and spiritual practice.
Chris and Michaela have backgrounds in mental heath and community work and bring that into their poetry and pottery work now, in terms of the themes they explore and the way they aim to be connected. They also run poetry and pottery workshops in the community, such as with bereavement support groups, young carers and people with dementia.
