Maxine Keenan
“Using muted tones and therapeutic gradients, the drawings I make are a homage to a quiet life. Themes of presence, embodiment, trace, loss, and memory persist by the process of continuously applying and removing graphite from the drawing surface, and delineating the image through minor and deliberate variations in tone. The drawings, through a process of manipulation become a somewhat surreal communal memory. I add shadow when it shouldn’t exist, remove detail if it looks too busy, and often conceptualise whole images entirely”.
